At NQ Bodyfix, we don't just provide massage therapy we can also offer cupping in our Kirwan clinic.

Cupping therapy is a form of alternative medicine where cups are placed on the skin to create suction, which mobilises blood flow to promote healing. This treatment is often used to dispel stagnant blood and lymph.

There are two types of cups and cupping techniques: silicone (soft cups) or glass (used for flame cupping). Both are equally effective, they are simply applied using different techniques.

Cupping—Flame & Silicone

Cupping is a method of applying acupressure by placing cups on the skin to create suction. This suction facilitates healing with blood flow by moving stagnation, stagnant blood and lymph—thereby improving qi flow. Qi is a Chinese word that means life force.

Blood circulation is increased where the cups are placed. It's believed this can assist with muscle tension and promote cell repair. Some of our clients believe they get stronger relief when mixing this technique with their remedial massage therapy. Cupping can leave temporary marks on the skin from the suction. These usually only last 3 to 7 days. There is also a small risk of burns for people who have sensitive skin. The colour and pattern of the marks will allow our therapists to distinguish the level of stagnation in that area of your body. Marks can range from a red to dark purple.
